Odd question of the day: What font is used for the Mint Mark on coins?

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

    ? It's not a font, it's someone engraving a letter onto a die.
  • I know that but is there a coin that closely matches it?

It changes. There is no one font style. That's why you can often identify a coin as a counterfeit. The font or style of the mintmark is wrong for that era. And in the nineteenth century they would sometimes have mintmarks of more than one style used on a given coin. This occurs in the 20th century as well. The 1981 Type I and II S mintmarks are different fonts. One is a "san-serif" font while the other has bulbous serifs.
