I was just looking at these the other day in the new issue of Numismatic News. Personally, and I know my opinion doesn't count for much, but I think these coins are stupid and why they ever escaped the mint is a mystery to me. This is like selling underwear without the elastic.
The waffle coins don't do anything for me, but I suspect the Mint won't release them any more because they are peeved that someone is making money on them, and it's not the Mint.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
And what is the mint going to do, keep them? Or after spending all the money for the "waffler" are they going to stop using it and go back to paying security officiers to escort the rejected coins back to the foundry/refiners for recycling? The mint has said in the past that once the coins are waffled they are no longer an obligation of the US and that once the foundry has paid for the scrap that they don't care what they do with it.
Waffles are just scrap, they used to be available by the ton. The mint probably doesn't want them circulating as an example of their work.
I listen to your voice like it was music, [ y o u ' r e ] the song I want to know.
I'd give you the world, just because...
Speak to me of loved ones, favorite places and things, loves lost and gained, tears shed for joy and sorrow, of when I see the sparkle in your eye ... and the blackness when the dream dies, of lovers, fools, adventurers and kings while I sip my wine and contemplate the Chi.
Good ..!!! I'm glad the mint decided to stop selling that scrap .I'ts ludicris what people are willing to pay for that junk..!!!!! Maybe the mint will get back into the busineess of recycling and melting and processing it's own metals...!!!! Wishfull thinking....................
Definitely wishful thinking. They are currently taking bids to have ALL of the processing done privately and just having ready to strike planchets delivered to them. Currently the cent planchets ar privately made, and the coinage stock strip is done privately but all the blanking, upsetting, annealing, and burnishing etc for the other denominations is done in house. Then the scrap and defective coins and planchets are sold back to the suppliers for recycling.
