Found an 1876 Centennial Medal on ebay . Seller said he cleaned it up a bit . image So i send him an email asking for more details on his cleaning method , his response ;

i cleaned it up wit tooth paste. it is non abrasive and the sopa tends to clean fthins up!

    You might want to tell him Diatoms, a large contributor to the cleaning ability of Toothpaste are primarily constructed of Silica. Silica chunks are rather abrasive in my opinion...

    Sent him an email explaining this to him and asked him should he find any old coins or medals to leave them in the condition he found them . He thanked me for the info .
