Lelands.com Spring Auction

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to anyone who I have not had the pleasure of speaking with yet on the PSA message boards. My name is Jonathan Perry and I am the Director of Vintage Card Acquisitions at Lelands.com.
The auction is currently live on the internet and catalogs should be in customer's hands within the next week to ten days. Please remember the auction ends on April 27 & 28th. If you have any questions about registering for the auction, or have questions about the card sections please feel free to e-mail at jperry@lelands.com or telephone me at 516-409-9700. I will be more than happy to assist.
Best of luck to all in the auction.

Jon

    Hi Jon,

How long will it take for a person to receive items after Lelands has received payment? Will it be the usual 2 to 5 months? I can't wait to find out!

And when the wrong item is sent, how long does it take to get a call returned about it? I'm currently at 2 years and counting.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

    Good one eh Paul?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I'm certainly not speaking for others here and don't have numbers to support the following assertion, but why does Lelands have a second rate feel compared to that of Mastro or REA? I'm not simply referring to the breath of material offered, but rather the Toleteros Gibson, Munson airplane wreckage parts, 17.5% bidder premium, etc. There's always somewhat of a dirty cloud around these auctions. I may be completely far from the truth, but the aura on three different chat boards indicate that others might feel the same.

    A serious question:

What happened to Chris Porter? He was heading up the card acquisitions last I looked. He no longer shows up on the Leland's web-site. Anyone know anything?

  • I am sorry to hear both "Knuckles" and "Griffins" have had problems in the past (customer service or otherwise). All I can do is assure you this must have occurred before I joined the firm. If either of you would like to call me at 516-409-9700 or e-mail me at jperry@lelands.com, all I can give you is my word I will immediately deal with whatever issue or concern you have. Over the past year the firm has made great strides to improving the quality of the auctions as well as customer service. This begins at the top with the addition of Ron Rolleri the COO. Since I joined the firm last year to handle cards and Richard Bond autographs and memorabilia the attention to detail in dealing with our customers has been first rate and we are constantly making improvements.

To respond to "67standup". In addition to cards Lelands has always had an extremely strong reputation in game used equipment and sports memorabilia. I think if you compare the other auction houses the percentages we offer in each category will indicate as such. In regards to your comment about the 17.5% premium, I believe one of the auction houses you mentioned also charges the same while 2 others “major houses” charge 19.5% and 20%.

To respond to "Detroitfan2" Chris Porter is an extremely good friend of mine and one of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby. He decided to peruse a personal passion of his and is now dealing with comic books rather than vintage cards.

"Poppie" I apologize for the delay in my response I do not happen to be in front of a computer at all times during the day.

As stated earlier if anyone would like to find out more about our auction or receive a catalog please do not hesitate to e-mail me at jperry@lelands.com

    kind regards,
    Jon
  • Jon, thanks for the response. In regard to bidder's premiums, weren't you the first to go over 15%? Not a crime, maybe just smart business as there doesn't seem to be a drop off of activity.

One reply to the CU thread posted today: "If you were going to sell a high end item, which one to use?

I think that several members here have had bad experiences with lelands. I'd stick to mastro and the like

  • john,
You must have had a tough time putting the card section together. This looks like weakest card section in a Lelands auction in a long time. BTW are you confident that the Reccius Wagner is from the time period that is indicated in your auction (1897*1899) if so what is your evidence?

    Jon,

Thanks for your professional responses. Chris Porter is a friend-of-a-friend of mine and I am indebted to him for helping me sell 2 jerseys and a partial-graded PSA set in the Leland's December 2004 auction. I am sad to hear he has left the business, I had no idea he had an interest in comic books. His Traverse City office was very close to where my family vacations frequently, I will miss being able to pop in and see what kind of cool stuff he has laying around.

Anyway, all I can say is that my one experience with Leland's (I have consigned but never bought) was handled very well and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Good luck in your assignment.

Cheers to Jon for his response and willingness to take some lumps for problems that predate him at Lelands. Best of luck with the new job. Hopefully things will change there, and our constructive feedback will be considered.

no complaints on my shipping times , received in 1 week after they received my bank check
  • Jonathan... Just curious. What did you do before lelands?
Always collecting vintage basketball and any ABA memorabilia.
  • The service and delivery time from Lelands has been fine for me on several high dollar items.
  • A very good begining, Jon! image

detroitfan2 - Chris Porter is the head of the Comic Division at Mastro Auctions. They sent an email a while ago making this announcement. Perhaps someone can send you the email as I no longer have it on my computer.
