Picked this up today for a couple dollars. Just liked the look. Anyone know what it is?
It reads...
DISTRIBUTED BY EMPLOYES OF U.S. MINT DURING THE CELEBRATION OF PENNSYLVANIA'S BI-CENTENNIAL. OCT. 24, 1882.
All I can tell is that it's crusty and "employees" is spelled wrong.

About 75,000 were struck. Two in gold
It's really a mint product with lots of history behind it.
I'm going to give it an acetone bath and see if the look improves.

The mint plans for this were to have 250 men in the parade.
A steam press on a wagon would make the medals as the workers handed them out.
Not sure if this really happened or not. It was just the mints plan.
