Let's play a little grade opinion, Canadian coins (warning, many images) - now with grades

Don't bother looking up the numbers, the coins haven't been graded yet. What say you on the grades?

I'm notoriously bad at differentiating between levels of unc, but I'll give it a shot...

    1. MS64RD

    2. Hard to tell looking at the obverse surfaces as to what surface imperfections may be hidden by the lustre... MS65?

1939 MS65 Red, is that a rub on the cheek and eyebrow?

    1919 MS65 or 66

I really like the look of the dime and if you decide to sell it .... image

I sure as heck hope not! image This coin came out of a roll. If I get an AU58 on the coin I'm not going to be happy.

the 10¢ looks a bit busy in the fields (at least on my monitor)...so I say it is AU58-MS62

    The first two:

    64 Red
63 (I agree with the Doc on the busy obverse fields)

    Nice 47' Dollar!

The pic makes the tree's look a little flat or I would say gem but being used to the brutality of the PCGS graders of late I would say 64 and wouldn't be surprised at a 63.
    image

The last cent I tried was a from a nicely toned choice 1945 matched date set. Of course the cent came back AU58.

    Fingers crossed.

I'll be very, very happy if the '47 Dollar comes back as Unc. I paid EF money for it.

    My predictions:
    '39 cent PCGS MS64RD
    '19 10c PCGS MS63 although I think it deserves AT LEAST MS64.
    '19 10c PCGS MS62
    '47 Dollar PCGS AU58

You have some great Canadians there. I really like that 72 dollar, and I usually don't like toned coins.

The 1919 10 cents is a terrific strike... I do not see the fields as that distracting... and it may be the lustre and overall surface quality and not much else... The portrait of George V is just outstanding for the series

I received grades today, very mixed results, I think I got the PCGS 'bend over' on a few of the coins.

    My grade prediction/ PCGS grade:

    1939 cent MS64RD / PCGS MS65RD YES!!!!!! ex-CCCS MS63 RD
    1919 10c MS63 although I think it deserves AT LEAST MS64/ PCGS MS62
    1919 10c MS62 / PCGS MS62 ex-ICCS AU58
1947 Dollar AU58 / PCGS 'Cleaned' No way IMO

    1936 10c MS62 / PCGS MS60 ex-ICCS AU50
1882-H 20c (Newfoundland) 'fingers crossed' EF40/ PCGS 'Cleaned' WTF?
    1929 10c MS63 / PCGS AU55 ex-ICCS AU50
    1913 1c MS62 RB / PCGS MS64 RB Yes!
    1972 $ don't care, just wanted it imaged and slabbed. SP67? / PCGS SP65

Good grades except those two cleaned ones. I don't see "cleaning" from the pics, coin in hand I doubt it as well considering the source.

Looks like ICCS really isn't too far off, even undergrading. I honestly thought the 72' Dollar was at least a 66 at worst.

ICCS is very conservative with Canadian coins.

They called that 1929 AU??? Obviously PCGS and ICCS are on the same page, but from the pics I would easily have guessed 62/63... image

I guess your pictures explain why I am not a professional grader... I like the first 1919 10 Cents much better than the second and they both graded 62... okay.... NEXT!!

Please call me when you figure out the TPG at all. I am stumped on the 'cleaned' coins. No way do I think either is cleaned.

    Ajaan:

I tend to agree that a BB for cleaning for the 1947 Dollar and the 1882 H 20 Cents is over the edge...

and let me be the devil's advocate for a moment... even if they were cleaned, did the cleaning alter the surfaces in a way that had a negative impact on lustre? I would say no in connection with both coins. And if the answer is no, then the coins should be market acceptable. For the record, I have seen some real disasters that have been holdered... and I wish I could explain it all better but I can't.
