Got a STEAL on DCAM Roosevelt Dimes

On ebay the seller was selling ungraded but described as "Superb Gem Proof DCAM" Roosevelt Dimes. He had one for each year beginning 1968 through 2005 including Silver issues. He listed them individually with beginning bid of 10 cents for most but shipping of $2.95. Promised a shipping discount for multiple wins. I guess nobody really wants Roosevelt Dimes because nobody was bidding on any of them. I sniped at 25 cents and won 20 of these dimes at face value, 10 cents for DCAM dime and one for 99 cents (1968-1990 minus 1986). The glitch was shipping. The discount was $1 for each additional coin. So my total purchase was $2.99 but had to pay shipping of $22.95. Still, that comes out to about $1 per proof DCAM dime, way under dealer cost. He would have done alot better if he had sold them together as a lot. I hope they really are DCAMs when they arrive and in pr69DCAM condition.

Show pictures to validate that you got a STEAL. Otherwise, it might be the seller who got the steal, no?
  • Great pick up!
    Coins, shiny coins!
  • I'll send some pics when I get them. Here is the pic from his ebay advertisement for 1969.

"So my total purchase was $2.99 but had to pay shipping of $22.95."

Eh, no thanks. No way in hell I'd pay $23 s/h unless it came hand delivered by seller in a silver lined box.

If the package says $2.99 for shipping, what are you going to say then? Sending a few raw dimes in the mail will not take much, just your average 2 slab package, and that should be cheap. The 69-S looks great, but the reverse is iffy on those 1968-1972 dates.

I hope the best for you KoinDawg!

  • He probably will ship for dirt cheap but at least it covers his losses from extremely low selling price on them. Also, he escapes paying 3% to ebay on that $22.95. That's the newest scheme to try to avoid ebay seller fees. Sell cheap and charge high for shipping and handling. Either way, I get a DCAM dime for each of 21 years at $1 each. Why should I care how the money gets split on the other side if the deal is good for me?

You are exactly right. Every auction should be approached with this thought in mind!

Well, there are some people who will just not pay for shipping, I bet there are people who will not pay $10.00 shipping for a hundred dollar bill that they can buy for $20.00 and neg. the seller.image

Did you verify that the images were the actual coins being sold?

Best of luck to you. Let me guess, were these from a "power sller"image. It doesn't really matter as long as your happy and feel like you got the better end of the bargain. I'm with you on the shipping philosophy but sometimes I can't get over it when they charge so much

  • Update: Got the DCAM Roosies in the mail yesterday. They all look wonderful. Deep Mirrored fields with frosty devices. I will submit some of the older years for grading. Very nice buy for a buck per DCAM dime. Even though seller wasn't overjoyed to have them all bought at face value, he did get alittle extra in S&H. But still sold all below his cost. This is a GOOD SELLER that follows through on deals even when taking a loss. His ebay is aaa-deals.

Nice to be able to compliment a seller after the barrage the past week against unethical sellers.

Congratulations KoinDawg...and thanks for the follow-up. It is always good to hear how a story turns out. Maybe more to follow when your coins come back from a grading service?
