My Wisconsin quarter exhibit won "Best in Show" at the Nebraska State Coin Show

Last weekend I did a exhibit about the extra leaves Wisconsin quarters at the Nebraska State Coin Show. There were other exhibits too. Some about currency. One, a really big one, was about medlas and stuff. I thought it was going to win because it was really good. But Mine did! I was so excited. I got a really cool plaque and $15!!!! Here are some pictures image

The show was really fun. I helped set up tables on friday night. On saturday I met Rollie and Patti Finner. Mr. Finner is the editor of the Central States Centinel and I met him last year in Kansas City at the Money show. He said that my article about the Wisconsin quarters is up for a award at the Central States show in Columbus next month. Wow! I wish I could go but my Dad says it's like 800 miles away image. Mrs. Finner was really nice. She's a governor with the ANA and does a lot of cool stuff for YN's. I also met Bill Horton, the President of the ANA. He was really nice too.

Saturday afternoon they had a YN auction. They had some good things and we each got $165 in YN money to bid with. I got really mad at my little sister cause she kept bidding against me. image But she I both got some cool things so I'm not too mad. image

Saturday night we had a banquet and Mrs. Finner said to the preople there that I was the youngest person ever to have a article published by Central States. That she has met a lot of dealers who said they know me through these boards and that they are proud of me too. She asked me to stand up and say some stuff. I was really nervous and kind of embarrassed but kind of proud too.

Sunday I got a 1909 half dollar for my half dollar album I got in a giveaway on the forum. I like it a lot!! It was fun looking at all the tables and meeting people. Some of the dealers weren't too nice, but that always happens. That's ok because I just remember who's mean and buy something from somebody else.

After the show I helped clean up and put tables away and stuff. It was fun.

It was a great weekend!

That was quite a weekend and one you will remember for a long time. Collecting coins and researching the story behind them doubles the interest. Congrats on the award and let us know when it's time for another project.

It's nice to see a young man like yourself involved in such a spirited hobby as Numismatics.I'm sure you are well aware by now that maybe some can be jealous of your accomplishments and I do not mean your little sister.Don't mind the fuddy duddies and enjoy yourself in the hobby and good luck in future exhibits...................................image

Congratulations! Mrs. Finner has given me all sorts of advice and "freebies" for my kids too. Education and encouragement of YNs are two key ingredients to the future of the hobby.

Is there an emoticon for a Dad busting at the seams with pride? I wish there was, I'd use it!

The greatest joy was watching notlogical all weekend. He was in his element. Rollie and Patti Finner were kind and gracious, and at the Banquet asked Samuel to stand up and said, "Samuel is the youngest person to have ever had an article published in The Centinel. They spoke of dealers they have met, who know Samuel from these boards, etc. (Lord only knows how all that came up in conversation) and recounted how each said "they felt privledged to help him in any way they can". Well, I was about to burst my seams! This proud papa could hardly contain his joy and have to admit a tear welled up in my eyes as I saw him stand up and address the group about his accomplishments and all at 12!!! He was also told that his article was up for an award at the Central States show in Columbus, OH next month. Just wish it wasn't a 800 mile drive or we'd be there in a heartbeat.

The next day, person after person who were at the banquet came up to me and said, "We can't tell you how impressed we are with your son". Along with the pride was a good dose of humility realizing the responsibilty I've been blessed with in "training up a child in the way he should go". As he's said, He picked up a nice 1909 half that he wanted for his album so he did better than I did at finding coins.

Over all, it was a great weekend that both he and I will remember for a long time. >>

How about a little info on the exhibit? Just a brief sketch of the subject should be sufficient. ...or a close-up.

It just goes to show - you get out of Numismatics what you put into it! By participating on the boards here, you've gained friends and experience most budding collectors could only dream about! Your enthusiasm for the WI Extra leaf Quarters and numismatics in general is certainly an inspiration to me and I'm sure all of the board members! Keep it up!
