I think he means just below the A in STATES, though it looks to me like part of the toning. Nice coin!

the only mint mark that ever graced a trime was an "o" in 1851.

I say AU55 Net xf45 for scratches on obverse.
Nice coin...wish I had one that was as nice for my 7070

No, the marks aren't noticeable in hand. Stupid me, I didn't even see them untill after I bought the coin

There is very poor lighting in the shop. The macro pics really make them look fugly.

Very tough to grade from a pic, and the variations in strike on 3 cent silvers makes it that much harder, but I'm seeing choice XF detail -- if the luster is there, maybe a just-barely AU50 -- but the scratches net it down considerably. Also looks like some corrosion on reverse at around 2 o'clock? All in all -- net XF 40?

You aren't going to find -- or anyhow, I don't ever find -- a 3cs that looks a whole lot better for $65. It sounds like you did fine.
