Somewhat interesting study in both Heritage image changes and crossover affecting price

  • Geez, sold in a NGC holder for $3220.00 in January and it's at $4,500 in a PCGS holder with a little over a week to go. I like the tone though.

The pop report on the PCGS coin is far more attractive than the NGC pop report. The description on the current PCGS listing is also describing a nicer coin.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • This is a very good post.
    There are so many variables.
I bought a Morgan from Heritage years ago. I spent $1,000.00 on it. There was a gash in the Eagle's breast that didn't show up in the photo. I phoned them, got irritating responses from a few people and finally contacted Rohan who referred me to someone else (who is no longer there but a very nice guy). They were actually kind enough to put it up in their next signature auction, wrote it up explaining the 'gash' and it sold for $2,000.00. That's a 100% increase in price!!! Same NGC holder. Amazing.
So which variables are playing here. The PCGS holder? the description? The time of the year (isn't Spring supposed to bring more activity in auctions?), The Moon? or Two people who just so happen to want the same coin at the same time?
Of interesting note, it grades the same with both services.

If I was one of the current bidders, I'd feel a little silly about paying so much more two months later, for different plastic. And the reserve has not posted yet. By previous pcgs sales, and the time since those occurred, I wouldn't be surprised to see this double from where it's at. Interesting.

Oops. In that case, I better spell it correctly. Plebeian. And here I'm a spelling stickler.
