I told a friend how you can crack the new ANACS slabs by hand this weekend...

...and he did it right there and then. image

At our coin show this past weekend, a friend from the club came up and showed me a coin he bought in the new ANACS slab just so he would have na example of the slab. I said, "did you know you can crack those by hand?" He looked at me in disbelief and I shared what I had read on the boards about it. So, he took his NEWP and twisted it in opposite directions in his hands and CRACK!, sure enough. It split. He couldn't believe it. He spent the rest of the weekend showing everybody and getting the same disbelieving looks.

I just had one sent to me on a consignment--was really scared since I wanted to try this out, but that would be a pretty bad business move image

Does the plastic shatter or break neatly at the seam? I am concerned that the shells may be reusable.

As on a previous post, I mentioned that you could cut right down the seam and open it up pretty neatly. The bar code does get smeared even if the holder is not ruined. I was able to leave just a minor crack in one, and I wasn't being that careful.

Well, it didn't "shatter", the plastic is too flexible to do that. It just cracked at the top, across one of the top corners and went down across the lable. But it didn't take much to do it. That was the amazing part. He just twisted it in his hands and CRACK! After a few minutes the whole thing had come apart. image

As I posted before....you can crack them as said here with your hands, but they do not crack right down the middle,,,,the plastic shatters......I really doubt that you could cleanly break the seams and reglue unless you intentionly do this using other methods.....
