Any guesses? image
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Seems the initials GTG are being used lately on these threads, and I keep expecting something about Greg The Great.

    Anyway, 66fsb, and prettyimage

It might be that the pic I took has too much light. Of what's showing on the pic, I think the mark on the cheek is what brings it down to 64.

  • Question about this:

Since many of you pegged this for an MS-65 or MS-66, do you think it's worth a regrade? The price of a 65 is twice that of a 64, and a 66 would be worth 3X as much as a 64.

You never know on upgrade stuff.

I would not send it in for upgrade. The luster break on the cheek, the hit on the neck and the weakness in states on the reverse make this a 64 coin in my opinion. Some how I think it just may have a few hairlines also on the cheek.

One thing you must remember about Mercs graded by PCGS. They are tough on them and grade them very much toward the technical side. This is stated in the PCGS grading guide.

I don't know anything about grading the series, but your picture looks like a 65FB to me. I wonder if it was graded lower because of a weaker obverse strike? In any case, it looks nice and if it were mine I might have it regraded. Good luck!

Personally I would NOT take it out of the holder.

I agree with Ken all the way. It looks like a 64 to me also.

  • Maybe the weakness in the reverse letters (STATES OF) and the braids knocked this one down a point?
  • It looks like the strike is the weakest link, so to speak. I'll be getting a 1937 PCGS MS-66 soon, so I'll have something to compare it against, and post pics here when I get it. (Thanks, Al! image)
