Opinion on letting a buyer use your images!!!

I sell coins periodically on ebay and recently was asked by a buyer if he could use the coin images I had in my auction listing.

I am interested in knowing other people's opinions/experiences with this type of request. My inclination is to say no and the buyer use his own photos. The buyer in this case is just going to flip (resell) the coin as best as i can determine.

Feedback is appreciated.

When I sell a coin, any photos I've taken of the coin are supplied to the buyer if they want them.

I don't see why not but just as long as the person using the photo's states something along the lines of :"These are 'stock' photo's and are not true pics of the actual coin being sold" type disclaimer....

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
  • If the person is reselling the coin that you sold him, I see no problem with it (since it's the same coin). If he wants it to represent a different coin, I'd object, because he's not accurately representing the coin he's selling.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Same coin same pic? I see no reason to say no unless you just want to be a PITA.
Some people get very touchy about their pics, but if you took the pic to sell a coin and not put it into a book or something, then I don't see why not.

I have asked the same thing from people I bought from...."can I use your pic"? Never been told no. Never sold the coin (yet) either.
The seller(s) who finally do tell me "no" will be the ones I no longer care to buy from.....personal choice.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'd let the buyer use the images of the coin they purchased, but not just any of my photos. image

  • By strange coincidence I asked Jose at Legend just this morning if I could use the images of the coin I bought on EBAY..He said by all means and even sent me another pic....In fairness I kept the Legend Numismatics logo on the bottom.

Personally, I have no problem. However, others do, and that is to be respected. When I puirchase a new coin from a dealer, I usually ask if I can keep their pics. If I purchase through auction, I will keep the pics but not use them publically if the time comes to let the coin go. image

As far as I'm concerned, when I sell a coin the picture can go with it! My pictures are rarely as nice as the actual coin though. image

In this case letting them use your pictures sounds like good customer service. I would ask them to delete them, after they sell the coin though.
And to tell the truth most just cop them off the net and don't even bother asking.

Why not? I doubt they will end up hanging in the Lourve.

I would say "sure, go ahead". I think I'd be impressed that somebody had the courtesy to ask.

If they bought the coin from you, and the main purpose for taking the image was for the purpose of selling the coin, I don't see why anyone would care.

It's another issue if they are in the business of coin photography, I suppose. In that case the image is more than just a tool to sell the coin being pictured, and I can understand some resistance to granting permission to duplicate their work.

IMHO, if someone buys a coin, they buy the right to use the image that was used when they bought the coin... or something less wordy.imageimage
