  • Why worry? The last one was judged on popularitly, the best photos did not win.

Actually, more to the point, read about the time involved in Dicky's Lincoln photo contest, someone just posted it's been almost half a year. Don't know about that, I didn't participate in that one, but waiting for what seemed forever in the previous one was annoying. Some people keep the coin for days. Hard to stay enthused when it goes like that.

  • We need to do one where the coin does a set route across the US.....not like the last where it went everywhere and was hard to track.

Also, there needs to be a stipulation that the coin stays inhand no more than 3 days. I think that the last coin has more mileage on it than any other in contest history!!

Why 3 days? Who needs 3 days if they are ready to image it, which they better be. If you only have 50 people participating, 3 days plus postal transit times is again half a year or more.

These contests, by nature will take some time, relax.

  • Sorry Pharmer, that should have been stated "possibly 3 days", just because some of the people have full time jobs, or they are out of the area for a show....etc......

The contest I set up with the Toned Iowa had a 48hr limit for each contestant and I don't remember anyone having trouble finishing it in that time. It went smoothly from each contestant express overnight and the contest was finished in a timely manner.

  • The first photo contest, started by K6AZ, was temporarily abandoned after his departure. I took
over coordinating that one and it took a long time as there were no set rules as to how much time
each participant had to shoot their photos - I didn't want to change the rules midstream.

Brandon (poorguy) ran another contest, which went much quicker. Each participant had 48 hours
to shoot the coin and get it mailed off via overnight delivery to the next guy. That worked well,
but some people might not want to pay $15 shipping.

I ran another contest (Any Lincoln cent dated 2000 or later) which went much quicker (like 10 days),
    but wasn't a best-photo-of-the-same-coin contest.

Dicky's Toned Lincoln contest has taken awhile, but should be fun to see the results - wish I had
    gotten in on that one.

I have a couple of ideas for quick contests, and will try to get something going soon.

Perhaps a quicker way to do the next contest would be to send the coin to the nearest geographical participant. that way it will not have to travel acrsss country 10x. I think that would save weeks.

Well, that and putting a time limit like was mentioned. Some people seem to have taken much longer than others.....if you know you can't get it done in a few days, boot it on to the next person.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I agree that Mark's photos of small copper are simply the best around. image

Hmm, so you just watched, no wonder you think you have the right to complain. No vote, no voice. No politics were involved. Maybe it was the 3000+ coins I have imaged. Nah, couldn't be. Anyway, I can tell you for sure that I will not be winning the Lincoln cent toned coin photography contest. My images of small copper are miles behind some forum members' images.
