The blotchiness on the upper obverse is a bit odd and I think that the possibility of it coming back body bagged for questionable color is more worrisome than the rim nick.

If you had it in hand you would see that it is 100% NT and Bag Toned.

I've seen worse, so I don't think it would get bagged. I don't think they'd bag the color, but I personally don't like it--I'm not sure if the coin is worth getting holdered.

I don't think the rim nick would keep it from getting holdered- but what do you think caused all of the unattractive spotting?

My guess would be from grease on the dies lifting off on the coin causing it not to tone in certain areas.

  • I would say no. I think it will grade.

I think that it will get slabbed.

  • 100% confident it would slab....the nick won't stop it and I have owned several toned Morgans with the same spotty toning on the Obverse.....as you stated NT bag toning.

I don't thing that little ding will keep it out of a PCGS holder; I have seen similar or worse get slabbed.

    It should slab.

    I don't think that's serious at all.

I think it would slab -- it would knock the grade down a point, most likely, but I think it would be graded.

They'll grade it. In a worst case, I'd think they'd knock a point off the grade. I doubt that even that would happen, though.

I agree, however, I believe NGC is more likely to let it slide... in an NGC holder, the core would hide the ding a bit better, while it's a bit more open in a PCGS slab

It clearly WOULD have slabbed, but now they will be waiting for it . . . the Board monitors at PCGS have already identified, coded, and designated your coin as a "no-grade". If you hadn't posted it here, you had a good score, but now . . . . too bad. If it ever appears, you are dead in the water.

This is what has slowed down grading . . . . they have to send the coin through digital imaging to see if it has appeared here and what the Forum consensus was. Another step = slower turnaround.

All AH Kennedys now are screened at PCGS against Russ's opinions. If I collected AH or cameo Kennedys . . . I'd be sending Russ a cheesecake or tix to a major league game at my earliest convenience.

The slab will hide most of that rim mark and if they downgrade it for that mark, you can claim this coin is undergraded and has upgrade potential. image
