Suggestions for imaging high grade circulated copper

09sVDB09sVDB Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭
I have a Nikon Coolpixs series 4800. Pictures of silver coins come out OK with the right lighting etc, but the darker circulated copper coin really stink. Any suggestions for imaging these types of coins? I'm talking about XF/AU Indians and Lincolns. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can try photographing them on a black background and hope the camera's
auto exposure can help. Digital cameras generally don't have the options of film
cameras, nor the latitude of film itself. You will probably have to use a good image
editor to adjust the brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.

I have had better success underexposing the shot one or two stops.
Someone here brought up that digital cameras seem to overexpose dark copper a bit.
