How to tell the difference between original and counterfeit proof set envelopes

I think this was answered a couple of years ago. How can you tell if a proof set envelope (1950's-60's) is original and not a new one? Still sealed means nothing if you can't tell the envelopes apart. Do you think most of them on E-bay are phony? Thanks
Steve

One of the ways is to look for the creases on the envelope. If it is old, a lot of the times, you will see the crease of the flap. Else, a lot of the new ones won't have that crease.
Not 100% foolproof, but a starter....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Just know that about 95% of UNOPENED proof sets on Ebay are opened, searched, and resealed.

You can't. The proof set envelopes were made from ordinary envelope stock and inprinted via letterpress with easily available typefaces. A local coin club member, now deceased, used to make them for the local dealers. They looked better than the worn out envelopes seen on the bourse floor in those days.
