When did 1895-O morgans go up by so much?

I have a lousy one, toned dark in G condition that I bought a few years ago raw for less than $100. My 2005 Redbook lists the 1895-O in VF at $175. Today I saw Numismedia listing the date in G at $230, and now I see the PCGS lists it at $625 in VF. Did this happen as quickly as it seems? Is it all tied to the price of silver? Are the on-line price guides wrong? Does anyone have a grey sheet?
I collect circulated U.S. silver

Looks like the mid-range coins had the largest increases, with the extremes not having as large of increases.
By the way, where the heck do they get their prices? I rarely see dealers selling coins for as high as Coin Prices lists them.
it is a tough date, gs is 250 - vg, 315 - f, 450 - vf, 650 - xf, 1100 - au, 13,000 - ms60.

That's beautiful, and I'm not a toning fan. Just to help me learn, Keith, what's the grade on that? I'd say 55, even considering weak strikes.
For such a "tough" date these seem to be plenty available. There are a number of dealers who over a year ago felt these were well over-priced. Because of striking issues it is very possible to find these in XF/AU grade selling for VF money by unknowledgeable dealers. I've picked up 2. And because of that I actively look for the date.....and have found plenty of them. While the majority seem cleaned you can still find original ones. Good luck.
