1917 Standing Liberty Type 1

It says that this coin has never been cleaned or dipped. What do you think? Also, does it look like a FH?

Yeah - what he said! Seller repeated it enough times, fer cripes' sake.

Looks like the coin is in ANACS or NGC plastic.

I wouldn't personally bid on an auction like this one - seems like more questions than answers.

Plus no returns on slabs, but an apparently slabbed coin is not so represented...

    Strange.

He also says no nicks, but there is one the breast - (it's a type 1, had to look.)

Seriously, you could find a nice 61 or 62 slabbed for that money - so why take a gamble?
  • That coin has had the luster dipped right off it.

  • Yeah....What Artist said.

If the guy says, "no nicks", and then posts a picture with a nick, to me, that says "no sale".

For what it's worth, it doesn't look to me like it's in a holder. The way the shadow's falling, it just looks like it's on a flat white surface while being scanned. I've seen a lot of scanned coins with that washed-out appearance, so I wouldn't necessarily say that being dipped is a slam dunk (so to speak), but he doesn't seem to be able to own up to the obvious imperfections of the coin.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

  • Wow...Okay, well, if yours was scanned, then I definitely sit corrected. Compared to yours, his seems to have quite a bit of wear, as well, besides the nick.

This resides in a PCGS MS65FH holder. And is a photo.

I sold this 1917 type PCGS mS65FH last week at ANR.image

    I don't think it's a nick...I think that's a nipple ring.

  • I really love your 1917 Standing Libeties TY1's, Trinketts and Rays! I am drooling. They are my favorite coin, next to the 1916 Standing Liberty. However, they are definitly out of my price range. The wife would kill me!

  • Dipped--nick on right breast and thigh. Nice detail but don't think it's FH, close, but no cigar (not a SLQ collector---maybe it's what I see sometimes advertised as 75% or partial FH)
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
