Holy cow!

I must be living right or something...

The two coins I referred to in this thread arrived today from different sources. Both were nicer than expected... one very much so.

Great Britain Quarter Farthing, 1852. Auction pics were crap, but I suspected that it was a very nicely toned dark copper. Yup. Sure is. I can't imagine having had a pocketfull of these; as tiny as they are (about 3/4 the size of a U.S. dime) they'd be falling through pocket holes all over the place! Nice little die break on the reverse as well...

Great Britain 18 Pence Bank Token, 1811. If you look at my original post, I joked about wishing that it would be a proof.... Son of a b*tch! IT IS!!! There was just something about the frosting in the auction pics that made me think it might be out of the ordinary. Razor sharp rims, mirror fields, and nice frosting on the devices. UNC is $200 in Krause, whereas Proof is $600. Not bad for $65... image

My crappy pictures don't begin to do the coin justice. The hazy area at the rim to the right of the bust is just toning.

Now here's the flip it came in... It identifies the coin as a proof, yet the seller didn't think it was important enough to put in the auction! (either that or he missed it entirely... don't know how you could when viewing the coin)
