Friday Images from Old School...dgf

Here's one that was published a decade ago in a book of World Series heroes. I purchased the slide recently and had the image cleaned and restored...
This is REALLY "Pops"...

  • Here's one that's been around in different publications. I purchased this in the same collection. It was used in "Baseball" by Ken Burns.

  • Great image of Pops Stargell. That A's image looks like an old SI cover when the A's were making thier big run in the early 70's.....
  • I don't know if you had the foresight to do this, but you should have set up a table at the Sun Times. I'm sure you would have gotten a lot of interest in these photos. Maybe next show you can set something up. If I remember correctly, you live in Lake County, correct?

    Cheers! Wick

Wow, great shot of a young Willie in his prime.

The A's shot is great too (RIP Catfish).

    Ahhh, to be young again.
  • Yeah, the A's pic has been around. You have good eyes as well. It is an original "SI" image. I picked up a nice Whitey Ford, Stargell, Bench among others.
As for the Sun Times shows, etc., I will be doing two shows this summer. Both are art fairs. The card shows are very expensive to set up at and my sports library is comparatively small in comparison to my Americana. The cool thing for me will be the web-site this summer. You'll be able to surf & shop and pull up thumbnails, etc. I hope for an interactive web page someday where people can share their own "old school" stories about life and sports.

Downgoesfrazier...........I work in Lake County and would love to see you stuff at the art fairs you will be at. Will these fairs be local? Would you mind telling me where they will be at? It would be cool to meet another board member and see classic photos at the same time!
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

    dgf-

who are your favorite baseball photographers?
  • I'll be in Evanston & Highland Park if all goes well. Most of the stuff I'll have there will be Americana (vintage images of people/places, etc.). My favorite baseball photographer? Wow, that's tough. I really like Walter loos as well as Art Rickerby. I'm not sure if I like Rickerby, or the subjects that he shot. I like the ART. I can take or leave action shots. I consider photography capturing the moment--a SPORT, if you will. I consider ART what comes next or just before the moment. I like photographers that catch that vibe.

DGF - I'd love to get an 11x14 of that A's pic. Are you selling those? I just picked up some negs and slides from the SF Bay Area teams but haven't got around to going though them yet but here are pics of the local SF and Oakland area teams.

  • moose,
8x12's are $25 and 12x18's are $50 on that one. I'd love to see some of the new slides you picked up. What years?

    dgf,

Thanks a lot for sharing your artwork with us. I feel like I'm having flashbacks everytime I see the latest image... And that's a good thing!

  • It was great to see a picture of Rollie Fingers. He was one of my all time favorites. The man had ice water in his veins. No situation was too tough for him to get out of.
