Last year a seller was offering 2005 1 oz Platinum Proofs on a regular basis. The eBay Coins were usually going for about $100 below the US Mint price. I expect him to do the same this year.
How and why was he doing this? Maybe he is the major US fence for all stolen Platinum Proofs?
Yep max of 4,000 individual and 10,000 in the 4 piece set. So I thought I'd do some checking on past production figures and see how many they have made in the past. Well in 2001 it was about 8,000 total, 2002 6,000 total. Couldn't get any figures from 2003-2005. You know the Mint site is pretty much worthless for any serious information. Looking for mintage figures only turned up the regular circulation coins. I did finally find the 2001 Annual report and then by changing the date in the URL I found the 2002, 2003, and 2004 reports. Did you know that after 2002 the annual report of the Mint no longer includes mintage/production figures!
conder, the mintages were in a recent issue of NN, and I put them in a thread here.
