Would this SGC 8.5 get a PSA 8 or a PSA 9?

The cut is a little off along the top and centering is a little off.. other than that it's pretty perfect. (back is clean)

  • PSA emphasizes centering so much that it would have no chance for a PSA 9, in my opinion. You aren't going to cut it up for an autograph card are you? By the way, you PSA/DNA cards are a work of art!! Very cool!

I don't think you have a shot at either an 8 or 9.
That top cut is ugly and the centering L/R is 60/40.
Maybe a 9oc or straight 7. Sawchuk is a god, but Brodeur
will be the next god. image

The bottom, left and right borders appear to be squared or even, however you want to say it, while the top border looks like it is the only one with a tilt. Would PSA not holder this and say "evidence of trimming"??

No shot at a straight 9 because of the tilt. I say PSA 8.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Pretty sure these were handcut cards.. so I doubt they would 'EVID TRIM' it unless they suspected the card was trimmed again outside of the factory it was made in.. *shrug*

Thanks for your opinions everyone, I'll be leaving it alone.

If you look closely at the bottom edge, it doesn't line up with the holder either. I'd say it's a diamond cut, similar to the Quackenbush card I have from the same set. Personally, I'd be happy with the 8.5. Why do you want to cross it over?

Hard to tell for sure from a scan, are the corners truly nice ?, if so a decent shot at a PSA 8. A 9 would really be a stretch though.

Seems possible the SGC 8.5 is about as good / highest grade as that particular card would get. If you do submit to PSA please let us know what the results are.
