20c piece help needed...

Ok, our local bi-annual auction is coming up in a couple of weeks. There is a strong AU-50 20c piece in it that I want for my 7070. I've been looking for this piece for a couple of months now. Current CW coin values at $350. I'm pretty sure it's going to go for a premium.

Sight unseen (like a mail bid), what would you bid with this discription.:

A fantastic example of this type. The obverse has peripheral toning, the balance lustrous. The reverse is very pretty with some steel-blue toning over the lustrous surface. One bag mark over the eagle's head is the only item of note.

Sight unseen I would not bid without a return option. It appears you have seen it and like it.

You did not give a date/MM, so I assume 1875-S. I also assume raw. I again would not bid. A strong AU50 of this popular type caoin should be slabbed for best saleability.

  • Yes you are right '75-s, raw and I have seen it. I just have to leave an absenty bid for it because I have to go on on the road again for work.

I would think somewhere in the $300 range. I don't know if you want it slabbed, but I would still worry what happens if it won't slab... If you think it is better than AU50, maybe higher.

    Good luck!
