Pistrucci and/or Voigt fans

This one got away from me by 25 cents. I put in a snipe bid that I thought was high enough but was short. Little did I know that 2 dealers and a buyer/seller were on the wings waiting to pounce. image The Pistrucci medallion is a uniface cast 86mm in diameter (almost 3 1/2 in). It is featured on the cover of the Pistrucci book by Marsh and the author knows of only 2 extant examples (1 acquired by the BRM from a Glendinings auction and another that the author acquired and has some well known pedigree). I guess this eBay listing is a third one. The pictures are from the seller's listing:

The medallion is by Carl Freidrich Voigt who apprenticed under Pistrucci for a year in 1825-1826. The medal is signed C. Voigt 1826.

That would have been cool...I'm sorry you didn't get it. Did the seller explain the origin of his?

No. He stated in the listing that although dated 1826, he did not believe it to be that old. I do not think he is aware of its rarity and was probably happily surprised with the high return.
