<< <i>Yea, I bought a few sets early and sold all but this one. Which means I got it for free. Sure wish I bought a couple of those ms67 sets. Oh well.
Anyone have the Pop reports from PCGS??
I wonder what that loan NGC MS68 would sell for?? It would have to be well over $10,000. >>
I heard that there was an MS68 set, and that it sold for a lot back then when MS67 sets were $1099 each
Now... an MS67 PCGS set... that would be something there!!

I had a set just like that, dang! I sold them for about a grand on eBay. I bought them raw for $207, PCGS graded them all at MS-66 and then I sent them to NGC. NGC graded them all at MS-67, it was a nice matching set.
These were caused by something which gouged or carved the die. It's unknown how this occurred but the mint has stated that it was inadvertant when something dropped into the press. Most people don't accept this explanation since there were apparently two and only two dies damaged and they were on the same press. It would seem that the odds of two mishaps appearing simultaneously and resulting in two very artistic renditions of leaves is improbable.
Whatever the cause these are likely to be winners.

Yep I paid moon money for mine (~$225 for all 3, including the one worth $0.25 with no extra leaf)

The registry sets don't include these.
There are some four or five thousand of each variety. Most are pretty nice with lots of MS-63's and MS-64's. Like most moderns they are rare in high grade.
Back when they came out I gave a MS67 set to my office manager as a bonus. She just sold it for $6,500 and paid off her car! My advice was to sell it if she could use the money. Keep it if not. She's very happy!
It sure would be interesting to see an acurate graph of the ebay prices over the past year!
If the mint decides those were not authorized they could be seized.
Also, the BEP issued an error stamp in the 60's anf then replicated it to make sure it wasnt rare ! >>
In 1994 the US Post Office created the Legend's stamps. One of the stamps was incorrect, the incorrect stamp featured Ben Pickett instead of Bill Pickett.
The USPS allowed people to send in requests for the stamps and had a drawing to see who would get them. My brother and I both got a set.
The bottom line is the Mint is here to make money, this creates interest, they won't be destroying or replicating anything !!
Besides, the MS66 is only about $1200 for the set, so it's the high grade that is crazy. The others seem to be going for what they where when the craze started.
And if the Mint did try to seize these coins, think how fast they would disappear. My sets would be sent to a safe house in Costa Rica!!!

If I crack out by PCGS 65's you think I might get a NGC 67??
Might be worth a try.

Perhaps so! Maybe 66s at the worst!
I have two sets... may be 65-66s, but knowing my luck
I'll have to post a guess-the-grade later on!!

It's not impossible but it seems more likely they'd confiscate most of the 1804 restrike dollars or the 1913 V-nickels.
BTW, the high bidder in this auction was one of my buyers.
