This card caught my attention. I read what you wrote and looked at the scan. Thanks for putting a rear scan for this card as it answered many questions. In your description, you state that it is an error card? I do not see an error per say, what actually appeared to have happened to the card is a factory miscut--it has a portion of another card on the side edge. These were originally printed in sheets, so the cut caught some of the material from the next card over. The correct hobby term is "miscut." I don't know why it baffled card shop owners as they should know better. You can call a reputable grading company like PSA and ask them if they assign a qualifier to a miscut card or even grade them for that matter. They are lower in value than cards that were cut properly at the factory. Check for yourself. Calling it an error card might mislead some potential buyers.
My two cents.

"Thanks for your intrest, there are 2 printing errors, aside from the miscut,in the front-upper left side of the card next to the blue lines. These are not visible in the display picture. It has been noted by many card experts to be an error card."
What I don't get is that the error he is talking about here is not described in the auction. It sounds like a print defect, which is not an error, but a knock against the card.

I thought I might be able to draw him out, so I edited this post out. All I saved was his original answer, which is here:
I'm sorry I have had offers from many people and is why I decided to place it on ebay. The errors are on the front upper left side. It is not visable in the display picture. There are 2 embedded printing errors inside of a miscut. This was noted to be categorized as a rogue error card. There is no other Ernie like it as you can see by the bid amounts. Some people just hold more value to it than others. Payment details are described. Thank you for your intrest in The Ernie.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
If you stare at it long enough, a vision of the Virgin Mary appears near the light poles in the upper left, complete with fielders glove and a Cubs hat.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Ok, I emailed the seller asking essentially how come the one selling point that would seperate his $14,000 card from a $5 Banks card is not clearly defined or shown in the scan. I asked him if he didnt think it a wise choice to give a potential buyer confidence by clearly displaying the error that in his words " has been noted to be categorized as a rogue error card " I went on to ask for any information on who "noted" that card, followed by asking about private bidders, potential fraud concerns I had, etc.
Well, here was his response.....
I don't believe we neeed to go there. Obviously, people have a want for the item which is why they placed bids so quickly. I have a 14 day return policy. So if the buyer is unhappy in anyway he can return it for a full refund. If your Father's favorite baseball player is Ernie Banks or maybe someone knew or were friends with Ernie would pay any amount for to satisfy thier soul. This card holds not only hold a card value but a sentimental value to keep in the family for generations. I appreciate your concern and don't think we need to take it to that level. As you can see many people want this card, we are good people , we don't scam. I put this on Ebay for people to have a fair chance. If you don't want to bid for it you don't have to but you should not deny people the chance to attain a card that means something to them. Thank you for your concern. Please respond if you have any more concerns

Mark, those are choice words....I mean, you are one of the nicest and morally minded guys here, so it tells that this seller reeks of SCAM ARTISTRY to the Nth degree.

I think I'll offer him $1.298 for the card in case the bidders back out. Or I could offer him a real error card and sell him a mint and well centered Bill Ripken FF error for a special $9k price. I call it "the Billy".
DG - thanks for the kind words. He had responded immediately to my first question with his stock "now-you-see-it-now-you-don't" description of the error, but when I sent him this, he didn't respond at all:
Hi - I'm the Banks collector who lives 10 minutes from Burbank that you responded to earlier - I am willing to pay much more than what your auction is at now for a true Banks card rarity, but not sight unseen. Without tipping my hand, I guarantee that I will top all bids for the right card. We could meet at the Media Center or anywhere you choose so you can show me the details of this card. I don't even need to touch the card - I just need to see it. Please let me know.

here is my favorite ernie. and yes he is hitting on a young marcia brady, sadly he struck out as he kept boring her with stories of how fred mertz used to be his housekeeper and the bonding that five men get living in under one roof without any female companionship.
