Cards and the old vinyl binder pages

Has anyone experienced any problem with old vinyl binder pages destroying cards? I remember reading in the past about how acid in the plastic will trash the cards after too long. Does anyone have 1st hand experience with this?

I just got a set of cards off of ebay, and the smell of vinyl is almost overpowering, so I know where the cards were stored before going into the box for shipping.

Good question as I was planning to use these binder pages for a upcoming project.

I don't know how long they've been around but I've had 5 sets from 88 to 93 in vinyl pages for 13 to 16 years, and I can't notice any problem?

It'll be interesting to hear of first hand problems, but I'd be surprised if any exist.

But then, I know only that I know nothing image

I have a 1976 Topps baseball set that has been in the old side-loader pages since 1976. The cards look just fine.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

Yup, The first factory set I bought was 1981 Donruss. I put them in the pages back in '81 and all the white areas on the cards turned yellow/brown. Real nasty. The new vinyl pages are of course safe.

Some of the foil cards get stuck in the sheets with the right combo of time and weight. i've got a couple giant binders with 100 sheets and the cards are a little difficult to get out. not sure about damage though. nothing that i really see.

I traded my brother all my old cards for a signed patriots suberbowl football a couple years ago. just a couple of weeks ago he called me annoyed, not only did he just realize all the crap i unloaded on him...but when he was attempting salvage what litte I left him, all the cards were permanently attached to the pages. I don't know if it's acid at fault, but there's something in the pages that causes the plastic to bond with the cards.

I've heard that problem doesn't exist with the ultra pro pages though

The only problem I encounter was the pages sticking together with sheets of the early to mid 80s.

Ultra Pro pages should be fine.
