1981 Topps Ozzie Smith

Aside from a few "project sets" that I collect (Clemens Topps base cards in PSA 10, Gretzky OPC base cards in PSA 9 or better), I generally just buy cards that I like for one reason or another (although the Heritage bug bit me hard this year). As for the "value" of the cards I look at to buy, I generally use SMR as a guide, and I've found that, in general, it's a reasonable guide (for more valuable cards, I try to track prices on everybody's favourite auction site for a while too).

Last night I picked up an '81 Topps Ozzie Smith in PSA 10 for what I think is a very reasonable price (I threw in a bid as I was walking out the door and didn't expect to come close to winning it). I certainly haven't tracked this set, or this card in particular - for those of you that collect this set, any idea what cards generally sell for in relation to SMR? Thanks guys.

    it all depends....

commons are worthless even psa 10. HOF and RC in psa 10 are worth more, Harold Baines fetches most $$$ by far of this year, averaging $200-$235 IMHO.

henderson's do well in a 10 and the ryan brought some high dollar.

if you find a lynn in a 10, it should fetch well.

i sold the first dale murphy 10 for around $125 back in the day...a year ago. image

  • I bought my 10 over a year ago. Probably paid around $60-$70 for it. I imagine you did better though. Back then it was fairly low pop.
81's are pretty rough. I sent in several on my latest submission all from a Wax box. 10% came back 9's, rest 8's. Had a heck of time with 82's as well.

  • Thanks guys - having opened some '81 wax I figured 10s would be few and far between. It's a good looking card and I like it, so I'm pleased.
