Defensive Football Vintage Rookie starting to heat up.

I just sold (12) 1960's and 1970's defensive HOF rookies in PSA 7/8 at SMR or higher on Naxcom and in private deals over the past 2 weeks.

For example -

1966 Philly Butkus PSA 7 $310
1971 Topps Joe Greene PSA 8 $120
1977 Topps Mike Haynes PSA 8 $22

IMHO - The best values in the hobby are second tier defensive HOF rookie like Haynes. Vintage DBs don't get the same love as LBs and linemen, but people are starting to appreciate their accomplishments.

The Haynes has been heating up for quite some time. I've seen it sell (in PSA 8) as low as $12, subsequent sales all exceeded that and the last one I saw went for $18.

The 66 Philly Butkus is hard enough to find in any shape to be quite honest. Not to mention that set is fantastic to look at! I haven't followed the Greene at all because I already have one I'm happy with, but the Butkus and Haynes are both great examples of your message.

I think all of the HOF vintage is really starting to heat up, especially in football. I think it's a great time to be investing in it, I just hope I don't have to sell too much of my collection before it really takes off.

The last Haynes went on ebay for a little over $20. I put mine up on Naxcom at $22 yesterday just to park it and it sold today. Should have went to $25! Oh well. I've been pretty good lately at buying football rookies in $1 boxes and playing the grading game. The last 3 Haynes I've purchased all came back as PSA 8s.
