eBay buyer is asking for no feedback...

Anyone has had the experience of a eBay buyer asking for no feedback?

Thanks,

  • Maybe they don't want others to see what they are buying... as feedback is pretty permanent...

  • That's what it sounds like to me, too. Isn't their feedback the only way to see what someone's bought or sold on Ebay?
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Not the only way. You can also do a search on the user name and include closed listings. It will show what they bid on for the past 30 days.

Yep, he says he just doesn't want others (his family) to know that he buys gold.

When I'm looking to buy coins, I like sellers with 200-300 feedbacks.

Gives me the impression I'm dealing with a non-dealer, but someone who knows what they're doing. Also gives me the impression I'm dealing with a collector, not someone who's necessarily looking for profit.

If their feedback rating is "power-screwer" high - that just means they're going to screw me. If their feedback is "newbie" low - there's more of a chance I'm going to have a problem with the transaction.

So I can see an incentive to keeping your feedback lower.

I had some guy give me the old "you go first" routine the other day. Little does he know I could care less about getting his feedback.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

If you register a Germany address & make your feedback private no one can see what you're currently bidding on, have bid on or bought/won in the past, or see any feedback comments (which have linkable item #'s) which also allow people to see what you've bought for the last 3 months.

Other countries have similar privacy laws as to prevent eBay from allowing others to see what items you are "into".
  • Concerning feedback:

Should I be worried that I paid for two items and gave positive feedback, but haven't had feedback reciprocated? They've had my money and I've had their coins for awhile now, but still no feedback from them. (One of them was that Merc with not-so-full bands.)

If you are a buyer only, and don't plan on selling anything, I wouldn't worry at all - feedbackis much more valuable to a seller. If you plan on selling at some point, I wouldn't worry about it yet, some sellers will post a lot of feedback at once, so they may not have gotten around to it yet. When the 90-day limit approaches, and you haven't received it, just send them a note - if you already left positive fb for them, I would think they would be more than happy to reciprocate.

I'm finding it more and more common that feedback is not reciprocated, or left at all. I think many sellers just can't be bothered with it. This used to bug me when I was a newb and needed every pos I could get, but now I've got lots of feedback, so I don't worry about it.

  • I used to not worry about it, since I was (mostly) only a buyer. But now that I've got a few things online (and am sort of mulling over the idea of getting into auctioning more seriously) it does occur to me to worry about it. I've heard lots of people on here saying they won't deal with people with low feedback scores (even if what feeback is there is all positive). I've only got 22 feedbacks so far. Somewhere down the line when I get that 1796 dollar back from ANACS (whenever that is...Grrr) I'm going to want to sell it for the person who asked me to handle it. I'm afraid that with 22 feedbacks, no one'll touch it...

As I have 100% positive feedback on the bay, with almost 200 entries, I don't feel I need more. At times I have purposely ask for no feedback. I have done this so certain people can't see me bidding. I know about the advance search Russ mentioned. Also I have a alternate ID, that no one knows, for super secret bidding.

  • Some of you are not seeing what Russ posted. You can see what someone is bidding/buying regardless of zer0 feedback.

  • good point, i like to look at those big coin dealers on Flea bay and their shill bidders image its SOOO amazing that they are coinsistent high bidders and winners, but their paltry feedback never changes....guess some of the big boys dont like their coins selling for less than XXX amount of dollars...

I have asked just about every coin seller to withhold my feedback on coin purchases. I buy and sell with the same acct. And I am primarily an EBAY seller of items not coin related.

It is not unusual for a seller to be concerned with prying eyes on his feedback. I do not want my buyers/auction lurkers to know what I purchase and what my hobby is.

I've got a 1300 feedback rating and I could care less if someone gives me feedback or not........after 7 years on ebay and 2500 total feedback's, the novelty wears off......

If someone specifically requests no feedback, fine with me.......

Does this mean you are a market maker since you have to both buy and sell???

Has anyone considered the possibility of a seller selling stolen coins? image
