Another eBay s/h rip-off.

I almost bid on this 2005 ASE but then I noticed S/H charges. After checking his other auctions I reported him.

LOL--I just sold a set of baseball cards to a guy in Taiwan, and I use the Ebay calculator to set shipping, It came up with a $57.00 charge for the $7.00 auction bid. The guy emailed me all freaked out, said dont ship UPS. I said no problem, if he doesnt mind waiting a bit on the cards, I can send them cheaper. I didnt set the charge, and I dont mind shopping for a lower way to get it there, just depends on when they want it. This guy obviously has his profit figured on the back end.

Three negs in the past week for high shipping. Why do people bid and why is ebay letting them get away with it?

  • You mean $25.95 isn't a good deal for shipping? Boy have I been misled.

  • Here's one of the Ebay problems that really sucks:

If someone reports an auction as a fraud, Ebay sometimes cancels the auction after the gavel falls. When this happens, if you've already paid for the item, the seller gets the money, but you have no chance of getting the item, because as far as Ebay's concerned, you never won it, and it's at the seller's discretion whether or not they want to complete the transaction. (I know, because one of the first coin purchases I made (for a gold quarter eagle) went down exactly that way.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

  • Have you checked out Shoes in Ebay? My wife buys alot at 1 cent with 14.95 to 25$ shipping all based on the shoe. There is like 1000's set like this. So 25$ will be accepted by ebay. Sad I know.

i think that ebay should set maximum acceptable shipping charges based on wieght and/or bulk. image

I think ebay should require every seller to state shipping charges in a standerd way, the bottom feeders are sly and realize many people wont read the fine print and most of would assume reasonable shipping fees.
If everone had to place an amount next to the desription it would hinder sellers like this since it would be more obvious.

Just plain disgusting. Here's another cure, though unfeasible I know: Place the seller's name and mug shot right in with his profile.

This kind of thing goes on all the time in other sections of Ebay. For example, I just bought a computer cable on EBay for $5 and ship0ping was $10. I've seen BINs for .01 with $10-15 shipping. There's no question it's fee avoidance, but if Ebay lets them do it, why do we care? As long as the shipping is clearly stated, I have no problem with Joe Merchant saving a few cents in Ebay and Paypal fees - they certainly take a big enough chunk out.
