Well, now I know I am getting old. Al went to Central Regional High School by me in New Jersey and I was a on the freshman baseball team at Howell High School. Central varsity played us at home and we as freshmans were required to be at that game as "practice" Al struck out 19 Howell Rebels and gave up a measly single if I remember correctly for a 1 hit blow out shut out image

  • Im in that same boat

I went to Lakewood High ( about 20 mins from Leiters school and about 10 mins from softparade's town ) and saw him strikeout about 20 batters against our varsity squad. I was a freshman at the time and that game is a game i'll never forget

I always liked Leiter - even last season where I felt he was in a bit over his head. Seems like a regular guy who got a chance to be a big league pitcher, and he made the most of it. He is a decent commentator from what I have seen - I am sure that's where he is headed.

  • Leiter was on 3 World Champion teams too, 1992 and 1993 Blue Jays, and 1997 Marlins.

He has always been a class guy. Good luck Al.

So when does spammy start a thread 'does Al Leiter belong in the hall of fame'?

  • Just don't ask Paul Beeston (former president & CEO) of the Blue Jays what he thinks of Al Leiter. Beeston is a very gregarious, people person, but I've heard that the one player he felt slighted by in his tenure with the Blue Jays was Leiter. Leiter was injured through most of his career with the Jays and the Jays apparently jumped through hoops to get him the proper care and treatment, and then after one full, healthy season with the Jays, he took the money from the Marlins and ran. He had a decent career, but, boy, he's not a real popular guy in Toronto.

Once again the great axhole has struck and proven he has nothing interesting, insightful, or relevant to provide.

Nice high school stories of Leiter guys ! He always seemed like a regular guy, and it makes me feel that much older seeing another guy I frew up watching heading out to pasture.

What it says about me is that I think you are a truly pathetic fool who has nothing going on in his life except to bash anything having to do with a place where I am sure you have never been. Is your life that empty ? Did one of the countless girls who turned you down over the years move to NY ? There must be some pathology to explain your hatred for a place you have never actually visited in person.

Oh, Axhole cant help it...there's a mental issue going on there. Cant take a simple post about a guy retiring...maybe because a Yankees fan started the post....he has to make it about his agenda to bash the Yankees.
Lighten up Axhole, the post wasnt about Spammy or the Yankees.

You yankee fans are truly hillarious.

No, spammy shows a propensity for asking 'does such and such' belong in the hall...and my question was truly warranted.

You yankee dorks need to buy (oops I mean win) a world series again, so you'll quit being the arrogant jackasses you are.

You may or may not have a point about your comment being warranted maybe IF it were on another thread...your comment had nothing to do with this thread and was malicious at best.
    Grow up Axhole.

How would it have made sense in another thread? This was a thread about an average pitcher hanging it up. Spammy has, in the past month, devoted numerous threads asking if some average players belonged in the hall or not.

I am sorry YOUR hero's thread was soiled in such a way...I shall hang my head in shame.

    Not.

Ax, a "average" pitcher does NOT pitch for 19 years in the big leagues. Al Leiter was more than a "average" pitcher. He is not a Hall of famer ... not even close..... but AVERAGE? Axtell, an "average" pitcher in the major leagues DOES NOT win 162 games in his career. Really, you can't be any more foolish than you have the past few months ..... bla

    19 years, 162 wins?

162-132 record, .551 winning percentage, averaged 13 wins and 11 losses per 162 games over his career.

Yeah, he was AVERAGE. His record and stats are the very epitome of AVERAGE.

yep, leave it to the board DUNCE to ruin a a cool thread about the retirement of a good and servicable pitcher. Axtell, you might think your abrasiveness is somehow "cool". It would be if you were not so STUPID. image

Ax, do you even collect cards anymore? I can't remember the last time you posted anything about cards since your "refocusing my collection" BS when selling your 2005 Topps Heritage master set. Who the hell refocuses their collection by selling a 1 year old modern set? image

No, you do nothing anymore but languish in the Sports Forum spewing your propaganda. Times are tough huh?

You are that stupid and immature not to know how it would make more sense on another thread? I can deal with your rediculous propaganda when it comes to smack talk about the Yankees....but this wasnt even in close to the same ballpark.
Never said that Leiter was my hero...was tipping my hat to a good baseball player on the field and with the fans.
It's time to get out of the diapers Axhole.

Good to see you are so enamored of me that you follow my every posting, but to be honest, I haven't been spending much money on cards lately...been spending money on remodeling the house I bought last year. But then, since you live in your momma's basement, you wouldn't know about expenses such as that, right sparky?

Well, for someone who has repeatedly called this forum a 'cesspool' (your words, not mine), you seem to enjoy slumming it. Why do you hang out here so much if it's such a downer for you? Do you enjoy trying to express how superior you think you are? Or are you such an idiot you have no friends and feel the need to try to impress people?

Hmm last I time I checked, this was the SPORTS forum not the SPORTS CARD forum, or are you that dense you can't tell the difference? And yes, I got caught up in heritage mania, put together a beautiful huge set, and have come to the realization that it doesn't fit in my collection.

I agree with axhole that Leiter was average. Average for a STAR.

The average baseball player prolly just falls short of the years needed for the pension.

    Good for you.
