I felt compelled to comment to the seller on this one....The crux of my comment was that I felt the auction was a bit unscrupulous. I got this reply back within an hour or so......any comments? Should I have kept my comments to myself?

Hello,
Thanks for your opinion on the grading services. I am not sure why you felt the need to send me that message but I appreciate it anyway.
We are going to have to respectfully disagree on this issue.
There are plenty of very serious collectors and investors that buy and sell coins graded by all the various grading services. You just have to understand that each and every service has their own grading criteria. There is no such thing as the mythical "real grade" of a coin. The ANA grading standards are way to vague for there to be any accuracy and consistency from grader to grader. Try sending a variety of NGC MS65 coins to PCGS and see what percentage of them come back MS65. I bet you it will be low. And those are the considered the most accurate grading companies by the general public.
The reputation of NGC and PCGS as the best grading services comes primarily from their marketing efforts and sponsorship of the ANA and special events -- not from the quality of their services. They have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars telling everyone how great they are. Collectors that are savvy enough to see through the marketing and brainwashing realize there are great deals to be had on coins graded by all companies.
I think ICG and especially ANACS are more conservative than either NGC or PCGS. PCGS is much more conservative than NGC. By the way, conservative does not necessarily mean better. Consistency is much more important. PCGS is not consistent at all in my opinion.
I have sent several coins graded by NTC and NNC and especially SEGS in to NGC for grading and received the same grade or one grade lower every time. Granted, I specially picked the coins to send based on my grading experience. Needless to say I made very nice profits on those coins considering I paid the low "off-brand" prices and sold them at the NGC price level. People tend to fixate on the misgraded examples of off-brand slabbed coins and ignore the portion that was accurately graded.
If you want to continue to pay the premium price for your NGC and PCGS coins then go ahead and do so. I have no problem with that. I often do that myself. It is just that I prefer to pay the much lower off-brand price whenever possible and it often rewards me with a very nice coin at a bargain price. I will buy a high-quality coin when I find one and I don't care what brand of slab it is in.
NTC, NNC, PCI and SEGS are very popular grading services these days. People are happy with the quality of their work and their pricing. The shoddy companies come and go quickly, but these companies have been around for years because people like them.
I have been selling these coins for years. I have many repeat buyers that are so happy with the quality of the coins they receive compared to the price they paid that they keep coming back to me and buying more. That wouldn't happen if I was selling junk would it?
My prior buyers have requested that I make the bidders's IDs private. There are many unscrupulous people out there that send harassing emails to people that bid on very expensive items. Most of them are people that want to sell them a piece of junk for an outrageous price, and some of them are from other dealers wanting to advertise something. There are also people that don't understand how the coin market works and want to spread their wacko ideas to other people for some unknown reason.
All of the coins that I sell on eBay were already graded when I bought them.
I would enjoy reading any additional comments you may have.
Take care,

Based on what criteria??
Surely not the pictures!!
You think that coin is MS?
<< <i>I think the guy made a very reasonable reply. >>
Agreed. Well-thought-out, literate, makes a couple good points. It would have been convincing if the coin was uncirculated, which it wasn't.

You can tell by those pics???
