1916 or 1917 Type 1 "no date" Standing Liberty?

Can anyone identify these?

That's a 1917. The head goes up higher on the 1916.

Wait...I think I'm losing my mind image

    They're still 1917s, though image
  • There are two coins...top and bottom. Which is the one you are referencing?

    Thx!

I was looking at the top one, but I think they're both 1917.

They're both 1917, note the shield detail.

  • What would they be worth in this terrible condition?

Those are both 1917 Ty I's

There are three distintive differences, two at least are visible with the pics you provided.

First, the gown along the bottom will stop short near the toes in the lower foot rather than extending up further to leg area. Secondly, the 1916 has one hair strand, and not two as on the 1917. Lastly the shield is a little different on the 16 than 17, but sometimes this is hardd to judge from a photo.

By the way, not too long ago while I was in a local shop, a guy brought in 3 worn off tyI SLQ's that he bought off e-bay. Apparently, the e-bay seller indicated in the listing that they might be 1916's and worth a premium even in worn out condition. The guy was pretty convinced he had potentially three 1916 slq's. The shop owner is rather dumb, so he had no idea, so I educated them both on the diagnostics to look for. The guy apparently still did not believe me, so he had the shop owner send them into the tpg, and all three came back 1917's as I had informed them. So not only was he out the 40 bucks each he paid for them, but also 25.00 a piece for the tpg service plus postage.

    Some folks will never listen!!!

PS:I not referring to the shop owner as dumb because he was not informed on this instance, but becuase he is arrogant and acts like a know it all!

  • So, I take it that they are worthless? Oh well, nothing ventured - nothing gained!

    Thx for the advice!

He ain't the brightest bulb on the Chandelier either!
  • I don't like that type! I am forced to stick with auctions and "finds" in my pocket change because there aren't any shops near me.
