2 NewP's! Grade Help, please! :) Half Cent & Indian Head Cent!

Hello all,
I picked up to coins from a dealer. I wondering what you think they would grade.
Also, what variety is the Half Cent and how do you tell??

1828 Half Cent (13 stars) - Included 2 other close-up photos, of maybe a DDR and another, there is a little spike of metal off one of the leaves.

1903 Indian Head Cent
Thanks a ton!!!!

Your 1828 half cent is a Cohen-3, a Rarity 1 coin (and perfect coin for a type collection). I'd need a bit bigger photo of both sides to be sure on the die state. It is not a DDR, and what your seeing around the lettering is known as longacre doubling and it is not a result of a double die. The the die scratch off the leaf on the reverse above H in HALF is one of the diagnostics of the reverse die used on the Cohen-3 variety, and your photo shows it very well. The obverse diagnostic is the low "28" as compared to the "18" of the date.

I have the same coin, BTW:

Your coin looks to be very nice. The color looks original and the surfaces don't seem to have been messed with, IMHO. I would grade it VF 30. A nice pickup! image

The 1903 looks to me to be an XF/AU but has been cleaned.

Take care & thanks for sharing...Mike
