Reprint sets

Does anyone collect any reprint sets and if so, which ones ?

I have been considering picking up some of the older ones...t206, turkey red, goudey, etc....obviously just for fun and or display reasons.....I just wondered if anyone had any input as far as collecting, displaying, quality, or anything else ?

They are what they are - representations of the cards but you won't be fooled into thinking they're the real thing. Still, for fun and a cheap way to see an otherwise $$$$$$$ set's appearance, I think they're fine.

Definately not looking to get them to fool anyone....I guess I was just curious to know how the color/print quality is...stuff like that. They would just be something to either thrown in an album, or even a wall display or something. Are they all printed on cheap stock or are there any sets out there printed on stock similar to the originals ?

  • I picked up a reprint set of the 1933 Goudey Sport Kings set. There is no way I could ever afford to purchase this set in top grade, so this will do for me. The quality is great and the centering is very good. I look at the cards every so often and dream of what it would be like to own a PSA 8 or 9 set. Oh, well we all can dream.image

I have several reprint sets, T-205, T-206, 34 Goudey, 52 Topps and a few others including the 53 Topps of which I also have a complete original set in about Vg-Ex condition average. Great fun to have classic card sets even if only mere copies, there is only one real Mona Lisa, however many schools, museums, private collectors, Etc. enjoy displaying / looking at a nice copy of the famous lady.

The only poor reprint set I have is the 53 Bowman color baseball, nothing at all close to the real ones, many cards are way too dark, the white borders seem somewhat over-sized and make the image too small. Overall I have found my 9 or 10 other reprint set to be fine and nice to view once in a while. Of course there is nothing like the real cards themselves.

I like reprint sets as well, though I only have one - a T3 Turkey Red set done in standard card size. I would love to have the reprint set Mike Wheat did in the original set's size but can't afford it (over $1000 for the full set). So I stick to my one set image

i have 1952 topps reprint set.

it is complete, minus 3 players that apparently had died and topps never was able to get any permission to reprint their particular cards.

bbce has this set in inventory, i bought mine from steve at this years nationals.

  • A few years ago, I was very elated and fortunate to complete the 1996 Topps Finest Mickey Mantle reprint set in either PSA or BGS form. The reprint set covers his yearly cards from the 1951 Bowman to the 1969 Topps specimen.

For those of us on this board who cannot afford the originals for many thousands of dollars, this reprint set really gave me a true sense of accomplishment.

I have many other reprint sets, but this one gives me the greatest pleasure.

    Take care
