Baltimore report. Yes... another

I made it in time for lunch with many forum members at the very crowded harbor place. There were several other conventions going on so the inner harbor was busy! Nobody would take me up on the offer to streak the Mary Kay convention upstairs for $20. I weep for the tag along husbands I saw carrying their wives' pink bags of cosmetics. Crack that whip! Ok... back to the show:
I did pick up a few coins for the type album, an 1875S VG 20c that I thought looked better than the VF's I had been looking through, and a nice 1883 No Cents V nickel. I got 2 nice BU Jeffs for my album and a Lincoln cent I needed. It's all nice but not anything to impress so I'll skip the pics this time.
There's an interesting guy in the back corner that sells mostly worlds fair stuff and he always seem to have something stashed if asked. He pulled out a Washington Quarter album this time. We agreed on a price and I decided to take it home. I know there are a few upgrades in it for me and the rest I think I'll be selling off later. The album is pretty cool too. Here's a few pics:
Tables of note: I enjoyed seeing Dennis and Tassa at Jade Rare Coin, Cameron at the ICG booth, Julian, and Wayne Herdon (where I got a few items and an intercept shield slab box for a great price).
I also enjoyed the Royal Canadian Mint table. They gave out a souvenir coin celebrating US/Canada 225 years of being good neighbors. I didn't find anything to buy today but they were giving substantial discounts to their direct prices (about 25%) and giving oot matching gifts based on what you spend. Thanks Ksteelheader for the Canadian Coin newspapers too!
Strangeness overheard... I was browsing and noticed a guy trying to sell a PCGS slabbed coin to a dealer. The dealer was saying to him "Look at those spots starting on the coin, those are PVC and you really need to be careful buying PGCS because a lot of their coins have PVC problems from the holder". What the???? First I've heard that other than the ACG mention of it discused recently on the forum. I'm thinking the guy was trying to BS the seller into letting go of his "problem coin" at a lower price. I didn't stick around to find out.
That's it. 5 hours of fun. Great show once again!!

I'm shocked that you would doubt the veracity of something said by a dealer during an appraisal......
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
<< <i>Coins with PVC can be slabbed, if the service believes it can be removed without hurting the coin. >>
I think this guy was saying that the holders caused the PVC spots. I have a hard time believing that. There would be a whole lot of unhappy customers by now if the slabs had a PVC or a reaction with the coins. However, the milkspots on SAEs are still an unsolved mystery.

<< <i>im not really sure about pvc, but i got a 80 MS64 Morgan at the show today that has carbon spots. as mentioned in another Show Report thread ,, I am really surprised by this coin/grade from PCGS >>
Coins often "turn" in the holder after they are placed in the holder. When the coin was graded it may not have looked the way it did when you bought it.

<< <i>i saw a dealer selling a large cent with obvious pvc in a pcgs holder. it was a chain cent so was graded due to its rarity imo. >>
Are you referring to the Chain Cent I sold to Scarsdale Coin? If you are I assure you that the coin in question had no evidence of PVC, and was extremely strong for its given grade. In fact I was planning to resubmit it for regrading at the show if it didn't sell on setup day.
