Opinions on this 1837 no stars SL dime

stev32kstev32k Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭
Just received this seated no stars dime. I purchased it raw as an AU coin. In hand it looks very attractive with a light reddish/gold toning on both sides, and it still has a lot of luster. I can't decide if it looks like it has been cleaned. The marks on the obverse could be cleaning marks or just friction - I can't tell. Anyone have an opinion?

Probably cleaned and retoned. Looks very nice. Great coin for an album.

I think it's still OK as an AU (probably net XF before a few years in the album)

Very high end AU, like 58, but appears cleaned by the fine scratches.

Nice coin, I like it a lot. It probably was cleaned a long time ago and retoned like the others mentioned. But how many coins from that time really original?

    Pretty coin!!

    GAWD I like those !!

It looks like it was cleaned and retoned to me also. I do not see a bunch of luster on the coin. Is there any ? The luster would be what determines the grade of the coin in my opinion. Wear wise it looks nice.

Low AU or high XF money would be fair I believe.

It has a lot of luster showing on both sides. Guess I won't send it in for slabbing - I have a spot in my capital plastic type set holder that should fit just right.

For what it's worth, I'd bet that it would [might?] slab. I have a Seated Half with very similar looking field scuffing. By wear, I'd call it 55, but PCGS slabbed it 50. I'll try to slip some pics in here in a minute.......

I love the "No Stars" Seated coinage also.
