Noe trial on state charges set for Aug. 29

Judge sets August trial date for Noe in theft caseMarch 17, 2006 - TOLEDO, Ohio (AP)

Tom Noe will face trial August 29th on charges he stole at least a million dollars while managing the state's investment in rare coins.
A judge in Toledo set the date this morning, despite objections from Noe's attorney who said the defense would need more time to go over documents in the case.

Noe attended the hearing but didn't speak.

A 53-count indictment accuses the coin dealer and Republican fund-raiser of racketeering, money laundering and theft.

A prosecutor estimates the trial could take four weeks and go through more than 100 witnesses.

Noe also goes on trial in July on charges that he illegally funneled contributions to President Bush's re-election campaign.
