what happened to GAI

I own 3 cards graded by GAI and I won another off of ebay the other day and I am not thrilled. I am sure it has been mentioned before but what has happened to them. I know they are no psa or sgc but this card is not an 8.

Was there not a good scan of the card in the auction?? Can we see one, so we can see what the issue is with the card. Why is not an 8??

GAI said we can grade all 13 versions you mentioned of th eBill Ripken FF card. I send them in to get 5 back raw. 3 are labeled white scribble Bill Ripken 1989 Fleer when they are not and possibly counterfit. Wont return emails about problem. Wont return emails on grading my rack packs. Didnt grade a version that PSA and BGS does as they had "lack of info" Plus many other problems. I liked 'em for a while. One 9.5 I have is overgraded. Even PSA does that though. Yet to see BGS do that. GAI seems overwhelmed with staffing issues and stocking holders. PSA will be grading packs soon so maybe they will do better.

While I'm leery of high-grade GAI graded vintage and key rookies, I do buy the occassional mid-grade or modern card from them if I can get it at a decent price. So far I've been successful crossing over all of them except for a 1986 Jerry Rice (GAI 8) that came back trimmed and a 1994 SP Arod that had a deep scuff on the back (GAI 9 holder).

I have had better luck with SGC cards.

I will try to get a scan up. I own several gai cards and I am very happy with those. Two 8's and a 7.5 which could actually be graded higher. they are high quality but this new 8 is not. centering is ok, corners are not good, print dot, and something on the back. I had great success with them in the past but I was curious if this is a trend or just some bad luck?

To answer your question, it's no different than other overgraded cards that occasionally make it into PSA or SGC holders. Despite the protestations of some to the contrary.
