Error Early Commemoratives in NGC Holders

Does anyone know how common errors are in the early commem's... I was just looking over some of my NGC graded commem's the other night and it looks like a double die reverse on a Bridgeport MS-65 I have, a rotated(maybe 10 or 15 degrees) Texas MS-65(not sure year... at work), and an incomplete date or light strike on a portion of a gettysburg MS-64. Sorry no pic's. Thanks in advance...

  • I've got a Texas with slight rotate.A Stone Mtn. with two die cracks.
One runs from the rim just under the "O" to midway of the"R" in dollar and the
other starts just under the tip of the left wing running along the edge of the
    wing and beyond alittle.

I would not expect many errors in the commems. Mintages were small, the number of dies needed were few and in generalyou could kind of expect the coins to have gotten a little more "personal" attention. I mean most of these things had 30 minute to two hour production runs. A pressman could stay right there with the press for the entire run and pull any errors he saw. Then then the coins were delivered to the sponsors and they put them in the sale holders they probably culled a lot of the remaining sgnificant errors and sent them back to the Mint for credit.

That reminds me... I also have a raw 1920 Pilgrim with a large die crack in sail and up around perimeter at top a small one.

I have seen many examples of this cracked Pilgrim. Too bad most Classic Commem collectors collect nice MS63 or better coins, and avoid the ones with the breaks such as you have described. Collectors want perfection.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

The is a Stone Mountain variety with a doubled die obverse. It is most easily seen in the motto.

  • How common is the double die reverse on the Bridgeport.... anyone else have or see one of these???
