Should Bubbles Galore keep grade LOW

image
I just received this coin back from the PCGS graders it is one
Beautiful coin IMHO. For this year many lincoln cents were struck
with this problem. My 1984 DDO Lincoln Cent as well had this
condition. PCGS thought it was good enough for a MS-67.
This coin with only one discernable mark below the D of UNITED
kept it at a MS 64. I have to agree with many who have complained
that grading quality has definitely dropped.

Another Example:image
This coin was put in a Littleton Album about 3 years ago from a mint set.
The coin toned a gorgeous deep red around the edge of the obverse as
well as the reverse. The coin has the blazing lustre of most MS-68 or 69
lincolns that I have in my registry sets. This coin was given a 66 only one
small mark under the steps of the memorial keeps this from a higher
grade. I'll keep both coins in the slabs they're in for I am not resubmitting
for an upgrade. They're great conversation piece's, as they're beauty is
more important to me than the grade on the Slab. Mike.

what other eyes thought of these nice coins. I've added them to my FUN Set as
they are nicer IMHO than my 2003 MS-68 or my 1983 MS-67 Cents. To all who enjoy coins please
enjoy the Photo's as not many of the Lincoln collectors have the ba!!s to display, let alone show off
their prized possessions. Enjoy your weekend it's my only time to usually get on the Boards. Mikeimage

Some people sleep. I'm not one of them, since I have a teething baby at home. I know nothing about Lincoln grading, so I can't comment on the PCGS grades for your coins. I can say that I'm glad people like you do the job you do. I wouldn't want to do it and I commend you for your dedication.

I see bubbles as being no different than planchet flaws you might get on homogeneous coins. PCGS will body bag coins with excessive planchet flaws. Moreover, I'd think that cents with bubbles would be more prone to self-destructing than those without, and that those without would be more desirable in high grade collections. If, as you say, the beauty of the coins is more important than the grade on the holder, why did you bother getting them put into PCGS plastic rather than something less expensive when you seem to have known about the grade limiting factors of the coins?

  • GOOD MORNINGimageShort night. I thought more people would be on here by now. It seems like a Saturday to me as I'm not ususally home on Fridays.

Messydesk: The coin (1983-D) is a gorgeous example with hardly a mark on it if for no other reason than to have in encapsulated to preserve it as a conversational piece. Sent it in with a bunch of others that almost all were undergraded IMHO.

Barn Dog, THANKS It is definitely a tough life being gone all week as I've only got a few collector friends here in town. I don't get to see many of them as weekends are usually family times. The job PAYS the bills and keeps my collecting addiction going!image

For in your later years you'll never regret your earlier decisions, as I did when I enlisted in the USAF when I was your age instead of going on to finish my education in College. Enjoy learning here as well as it can also help in any future endeaver you may become interested in. LIFE can be FUN it's what we make of it. image Mike.

The bubbling of the copper layer will effect the grade when its this bad. Most of the time it will be bagged as the coin is close to destroying itself. The 03 you got hosed on IMO.
