Classic Question on Crossovers

I have several coins that reside in NGC holders. For consistency purposes, I would like to get them into PCGS holders. I am not a complete idiot with respect to grading (although not perfect). I can either do a straight cross or I can crack out and submit raw.

Here's the question, for those that have submitted both ways, what has been your experience and what do you currently do (raw or crossover)? I'm looking specifically for people who can directly compare and contrast their experiences.

I have much less experience at this than many others but I've had better luck with cracking than crossing in the slab.
