New 2006 Lincoln variety ??

As some of you know, I've been combing through thousands & thousands of 2006 Lincolns, looking for one or two true gems. ... (Still looking .... )

Anyway, I came across this variety and have only found a few so far. They all share 20 or so markers, so I know it's the die and not just the way the coin was ejected. Do I send these in to ANACS, or is there another service that would assign them a nomenclature ?

If you've found coins with these markings, let us know your ratio ... they amy not be worth seperating out. Thanks.

The shots on the left are the same coin with areas circled. The ones on the left are two regular Business strikes.

The pics on the left with circled areas are remnants of a die clash. What your seeing is faint remnants of the Memorial column on Lincoln's neck, while parts of another column can be seen just to his left in the field that you also have circled. Quite common for the Lincoln cents and I would not recommend sending in to a TPG. I come across a bunch of them everyday while I search rolls.

However -- keep a look out for the new DDO for the 2006 cent. I came across one yesterday and will be submitting an article to NN shortly.

The coin I came across was a VEDS with proof-like fields. The only verifiable die marker was light northeast die scratches within Lincoln's inner ear and a very thin die crack at his eyebrow. No verifiable die markers were noted for the reverse.

There are 2 completely different major varieties of DDO that I know of. One of them plus a DDR wavystep that I think may be a DDO/DDR are recorded at coppercoins.com:

The one I have might match up -- but is of a much earlier die state that the one photographed on the linked page you provided. The one I have has been assigned in my files as 2006 1c CDDO-001.

I've found three different varieties of this DDO. The 1st variety has notching in IBERTY in LIBERTY. They all have some very cool thickening of Lincoln's features, like thicker ear, hair and beard. Each have their own die markers. 1st one has a die gouge top of column 2 on the memorial. Thats's the one pictured at coppercoins.com. 2nd has a thick double die crack on the back of Lincoln's head and a very small die couge atop column one. 3rd has a long thin very clear die crack on Lincoln's forehead. Each of the last two varieties have notching in TY of LIBERTY and thickening of Lincolns features.

The other variety of DDO has what I call fish-scaling of lincolns beard and hair. It is awesome. I've never seen anything like this before and I may keep what very few of them I was lucky enough to find. There is some very cool thickening of the date and motto as well making this an awesome DDO! It's pictured in the forum at coppercoins.com.

Geeze -- mine don't match to any of those die markers you mention.

Plus I came across a 2005 1c that I have assigned in my files as CDDO-001. It's stronger than the 2006 1c CDDO-001.

The one (and only) '06 Lincoln I recieved in change only matches one of the die markers of the DDO in coppercoins.com, the mark on Abe's temple, but no doubling of 'Liberty'.

If you do find a variety your best bet is to get all you can and publicize. Just
because you find large numbers of them doesn't mean it's common since you
may have stumbled on the only release. Making it known is the only way it is
likely to catch on unless it's very dramatic. Even then popularity isn't assured.

I contacted Dave Harper at NN and he wants me to do an article. So it will be in an upcoming issue of NN.

edited to add: I went to 15 different banks today buying up rolls. My room has boxes of cents all over the place! Ahhh yes -- back to the good ole days of searching -- the thrill of the hunt!

I've been searching through rolls since mid-January. I've found 3-varieties of wavystep Lincolns, 4 varieties of DDO (two completely different DDO varieties), not to mention all those varieties of obverse and reverse die clashed cents and odd stuff. It's been tiring. In fact, I got tired of looking through all those rolls and was about to quit when I finally found something. Jeez, I'm too tired to enjoy it, lol.

Murphy: I came across this morning a 2006 cent with a minor DDO that shows light notching on the top left corners of the letters "RTY" of LIBERTY and it has a pretty nice "wavy steps" on the reverse. There is a long die scratch that extends vertically right on the left edge of the letter "E" of LIBERTY outward into the field north and south.

Is this DDO/DDR one of them you have found also? This DDO/DDR will be assigned in my files as 2006 1c CDDO-002 + CDDR-001.
