Where the heck does pcgs get its price guide prices from?

I just noticed in my world series portfolio my ms67 77-d cents went down $600 to $575. What?! There are only 18, the last two of which I got graded and I sold the duplicate for $1400. I know the whereabouts of all of them, no others have sold recently. Where do they come up with this?!

Edit for spelling.

i am quite serious when i say the price guide is being used
for a game... and the results should be rather amusing.

movement for the sake of movement price wise.

edited to add: more seriously, prob the greysheet, auctions, etc..

I just noticed a couple of lincolns on Ebay that were selling for decent money. Just for kicks I went to the PCGS price guide and found out that the coins on Ebay are already over the PCGS guide price and have well over a day left for bids.

    World Series material ?

The price is not even that, a guide.

Coin which trade maybe once every 2-3 years show increases or decreases. How is that possible?

As someone said, price change for the sake of price change.

Yep! But I already have all of the undervalued ones. $1,000,000 goes a long way...

My understanding is that they call Marty and Russ, and then use the higher guess.

Does anyone realistically think that any human being or any group of so called expert knowledgeable numismatists could determine an EXACT dollar number value for every denomination, every year, every grade and THEN monitor it for changes daily, weekly or even monthly?

Come on everyone, coin grading and coin value is SUBJECTIVE. That means each of us has his or her own opinion. Learn to live with that. It is a fact of life. It is also a fact of life that any given coin is worth what a willing buyer and a willing seller agree that it is worth.

The coin guides, and I believe PCGS is now trying to improve its product, will provide the reader with an approximation of current value. I personally feel all these guides would be worth more to the public if we had two values associated with each coin. A low value representing what dealers reasonably pay for coins for inventory and a high value representing what the current PCGS guide is trying to present.

I think PCGS is using the contest to get free proofreading and peer review of their price guide. Coins that noone selects must be overvalued while others that were snapped up early must be undervalued. The $10k prize is magnitudes cheaper than waht it would take to pay someone to do all that research for them. Whoever thought of this contest is brilliant. image

    Hi

I've just sold a couple of PCGS graded coins............where do you report such sales?

Gee................something no-body has ever discussed! Is there something on the PCGS website that explains how to submit your sales?
