Mantles going up?

Most recent edition of Beckett hiked the prices on most vintage Mantles from 58-68 by $50-100. Odd, considering I track Mantles closely and have seen no movement in pricing the last several months. Is there something going on in the market or is Beckett just changing their values to make it appear like they still stay up on pricing?

<< <i>Sorry guys, I know I am in the minority among this thread of Mantle fans, but IMO, Mantle cards are the most over-valued cards around. The guys who think of him as a hero are in their 50s-60s now. In another 10-20 years, those will be the guys who are looking to sell as their heirs consign their estates. The newer generation won't see him as anything that he's not. Yes, he was a great ballplayer, a top tier HOFer, a true Yankee, a great story .. and all that....but he is overvalued compared to other guys who are close to as good as him. >>

Only time will tell. But, I can make a good argument for placing Mantle in the same category as Ruth who is going strong long after his death.
IMO, you're totally underestimating the power of the "Mantle" name.
Children who don't follow baseball and know squat about how Pujols is the greatest have heard of Mantle.
Just a thought.

As for the future, you can make the same arguement for any old time player. How many of us actually saw Ruth and Gehrig? But their cards still pull in big dollars. Baseball does a very good job of promoting history. Mantle will be popular for a long time. In 2009 it will 40 years since Mantle last played and I still don't see a player that will take over his status in the hobby.
