New 2006 Nickels

ledzep87ledzep87 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭
I am new to the coin collecting world and for this reason, do not know where to get things. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a 50 roll box of 2006 Nicekls without going on ebay or buying from a dealer. So far, the best I can do is either pay $150+ for a 50 roll box on ebay or $4.50+ per roll at dealers. Where do the ebayers and dealers get these coins and how? Thank you in advance for any help!

If you are looking for some sort of hiddent resource I dont think you are going to find it. I suspect those guys have contacts at either large banks or even make arrangements with Brinks or other armored car services to get the coin they need.

Check with your local banks. They may be able to get you a box or two. You may have to open an account though! Actually, any bank that will get them for you may be your private resource for some great coin deals!

I haven't seen a single coin from this series that doesn't have an unsightly gouge or scrape on the obverse. That includes both circulation finds and those fresh from bank rolls.

Has anyone seen any really eye-pleasing high-MS examples?

I'd just like to take the time to point out to all... it wasn't me who called those hated Jeffersons "eye-pleasing."

I'd also like to point out there are many people (especially on Ebay) that think after searching lots of Jeffersons and finding the one MS65FS example, that the coin is worth moon money. (strange how that's happening... I wonder why PCGS?

The reasons why you don't see as many decent coins are primarily due to the lack of mint state coins in mint sets and the implementation of large containers at the mint for transport instead of mint bags. The Top Grade Jefferson's have suffered... but, it's not a lost cause. You can still find them, depending on your ambition (how many coins you look at).

    Peace!

Edited to add... image And buy from the mint... you might have good luck.

Thanks you all for the info...I called some of the banks in my area and placed an order! To my surprise, I should have the coins in my possession sometime in the middle of next week! I was also looking at the us mint website and found that starting next year, there are going to be 5 golden dollars (the sacagawea dollar and 4 other golden dollars that will have 4 dead presidents per year starting with George Washington) and also a brand new penny design that starts in either 2009 or 2010?
