I've seen his name signed a lot of different ways but not real close to that way. That way looks a lot like the topps card signature, like on 56s and 67s?

Check ebay for psa/dna? There's one active now, elston howard dna

Back then I don't think all the players worried so much about always signing the same every time so I wouldn't rule it out but I wouldn't have bought it unless it was real cheap. Just my .02

    Cuda

This is one I own and was obtained by a friend - it is personalized to him - so I'm sure it's good - it's from the late 70s.

I was thinking of having Knucks do something with it.

It's on a piece of promo paper that isn't that great IMO.

Here's one on ebay which is like mine.

But before you think your's isn't real - he may have changed his sig:

Some people like Mantle, e.g., drastically changed their sig from the early 50s.

Thanks for the input guys. I only paid $3.00 for it so it was worth it either way. I guess it might be worth it to send to
PSA to get the quick cert. I guess he was the 1st African-American to play for the Yanks so there's some notiriety there....plus he was the backup for Yogi so I'm not too sure how much playing time he actually got??? Was he a decent player???? Thanks for any info-Claude

You can get a PSA/DNA quick opinion for $5.. and if they say it's probably not real then you saved yourself a 1 to 2 month wait as well as money. If they say it's likely real.. send it in. The $5 you spent on the quick opinion will be deducted from what you would normally pay.

Elston was a darn good player IMO.

He was the back up to Yogi, also could play first base and the outfield. His hitting was adequate but not exceptional IMO.

He was the AL MVP in 1963, 2 time Golden Glove winner and appeared in 9 All-star games during his 13 yr. career.

Playing with the Yankees may have got him way more attention than if he played for a small market club I would guess - but that takes nothing away from his career IMO.

  • Speaking of Ellie, I just watched 61* for the first time the other day. There's a scene where Ellie is talking in the dugout wearing a chest protector and on the left side is written SBHS or something like that. I think it was a borrowed prop from some High School.

Is it just me or does that signature look like a rubber stamp one?
