Totally OT but wanted to share

about my dad

I have no idea why this surfaced on the web recently but here it is... it was a long time ago, in a Galaxy (not so) far, far away.

    Wow, that's a story.

    Thankfully times have changed.

Though it sounds like the professor got his comeuppance.

My father graduated CCNY in 1939 and I believe that he also majored in French. Did you father go to Townsend Harris High School?
By the way, one of his favorite relatives was an uncle by marriage, a gentleman from France.

No, but I'm not sure which high school he graduated from. I want to say the Bronx High School of Science but the years don't add up.

I once saw all his academic medals (beauties too) but have no idea where they went.

Have they? Or have the targets merely changed? I don't deny that it has gotten better, but members of unpopular minority groups still have to watch their backs and sometimes fight for their rights. Times ARE changing and progressing, but we ain't all equal yet.

Human nature being what it is, there's never going to be any kind of equality either between individuals or groups. We're not all identical clones, so what does it mean for us to be equal?

The best you can ask for is equal justice under the law, which our Constitution guarantees.

Edited to add: I'm not trying to be provocative, and I'm all in favor of treating everyone with respect. But real equality would require sacrificing too many other things -- like freedom -- that are valuable in life.
